Why the SUNAIR brand awning is the best on the market.

  • ARMS - Forged aluminum arm components are strong than die castings or extrusions.  Three heavy duty steel springs provide better arm tension and longer arm life.
  • FLEX - Our unique two way movable from arm attachment relieves strain and increases flexibility which reduces wind damage.
  • ELBOW - Our awnings are made with twin, stainless, high quality aircraft cable, allowing for better arm and fabric tension.
  • PROFILE & Paint - Aluminum extrusions are strong, yet will not corrode over time.  Our parts are electro statically powder coated.
  • GEARS - The 4:1 gear is the most efficient gear made.  We use an 8:1 gear on larger widths
  • FABRICS - We recommend Tempotest PARA fabrics, which are sewn with a Tenara thread, manufactured by GORE-Tex.   We also offer the beloved Sunbrella fabrics.

caring for your awning

Common Questions

Wind

Our awnings are to be used primarily for sun protection on reasonably calm, non-stormy days.  They should not be left projected while the owner is not on the premises.  Your awning should be retracted in constant winds above 20 mph.    Wind Control devices may be added but are not a substitute for actual observations by you.  Repair on wind damage is a capability, but warranties do not cover negligence or misuse of your awning.

Rain

Our awnings are tolerant of rainwater striking them, but not of rainwater accumulating on them over an extended period.  If you are using your awning in the rain, be sure that you are monitoring it and the pitch is adequate to force rainwater runoff.  If you see rainwater accumulating, simply lift up on the fabric to force water runoff.  If the awning is rollled up while the fabric is wet due to storms, extend the awning after the storm to let the fabric dry.

Cleaning

Minor maintenance is recommended to prolong the new look of your awning.   At least once per year (or more if needed) the fabric should be cleaned to remove pollen, dirt, bird droppings and airborne pollution.  To do this, simply hose the underside of the awning as you unroll it, as the top of a projected awning, where the dirt accumulated, actually becomes the underside during rolling.  Use 3M, woolite, ivory snow or a mild solution of bleach.  Minimize the use of a brush, as you will wear away the protective fabric finish put on at the factory.  Spot cleaning of stubborn stains is sometimes a necessity.  Green moss and mildew is best attached with mild bleach and soap solution and left extended for the sun and bleach to work.  NEVER POWER WASH, use hose pressure only.  After cleaning, extend the awning and allow the fabric to dry before retracting for the day.
